Dear Ruth G.,
For black spot and other fungal problems, get a good general rose fungicide from a local nursery/garden supply store. Apply this according to label directions, this is normally every 7-10 days. Roses are beautiful but they do need more attention that most flowering plants. Using a pair of hand snips, trim out any diseased area on a weekly basis. Be sure to wash your hand snips in-between cuttings. Hope this is helpful.
