WHY CAN’T I GET MY AMARYLLIS TO BLOOM?  THE FOLIAGE IS BEAUTIFUL BUT NO BLOOMS.

Hi Lilly,
Amaryllis bulbs often need to be re-set…this means every few years you should dig up the entire clump and replant with 1/3 of the bulb above ground.  This if done anywhere from October through February depending upon the type of soil you have and how cold it will become.  If the ground freezes hard, wait until early spring.  Improve the soil with bone meal and Black Kow cow manure.  Mix this well into the native soil.  Throughout the year, 2-3 times during the growing season, supplement the amaryllis with a bloomer or bulb type fertilizer.  This will be lower in nitrogen with higher amounts of the 2nd and 3rd numbers, phosphorus and potassium (pot ash).
This should help get you off to better blooming amaryllis.  Let me know how this works out for you.
My Best,
Mr. Green Thumb
